the beginning - our story

Midnight Thoughts from Tiana’s Rocking Chair—

Myer and I were blessed to both attend The United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD. While neither of us could’ve imagined that early on that we’d be where we are today, it’s been a dream we both keep loving to have.

What started out as a simple friendship trading childhood stories between breaking down complex quotes of well proclaimed authors in our shared African-American English Course, has led us to where we are today—married, four children, and a lifetime of memories to make.

We often joke about neither of us wanting to be the first to acknowledge our interest in each other. Throughout that semester we managed to somehow find our way to sitting almost directly next to each other and after class we’d linger around to make sure we had the chance to ‘catch up’ on my walk back to The Hall (my room in Bancroft Hall) and his trot to the locker room, where he waited for football practice to start. Laughs still ring in my ear today as I remember our cherished friend, Bubba, who’d always manage to walk just fast enough to join us and didn’t catch on to our budding relationship. On Myer’s 21st Birthday I remember knocking on his door at midnight with a cupcake and drink, singing Happy Birthday — we’ve been together ever since!

2 years later we married, bought our first home, had our first son and life became more than we could have ever imagined sitting in that class. Since then, we’ve moved 7 times, added 3 more children, have had career changes, moved across the world and back and have found our way back to reading and writing, this time they’re just our own stories.
